Japan and Cambodia Strengthen Ties Through Cheerleading

On Friday 24th May 2019, a “Cheerleading Wear Handover Ceremony” was held at Norton University in Phnom Penh, Cambodia with the presence of H.E. Yuok Ngoy, Secretary of State, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, H.E. Mr. Hidehisa Horinouchi, Ambassador of Japan as well as the President of the Japan Cheerleading Association and International Federation of Cheerleading, Mr. Setsuo Nakamura and the President of Cambodian Federation of Cheerleading, Prof. Chan Sok Khieng.  

Over 70 pairs of cheerleading shoes and other cheerleading wear were handed over to the Cambodian Federation of Cheerleading by the Japan Cheerleading Association.

In his speech, Mr Nakamura remarked “Through the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, the Japan Cheerleading Association is able to contribute to the strengthening of links between our countries through the sport of cheerleading.”

He also added “It is my hope that through our small contribution, the Japan Cheerleading Association can assist the further development of cheerleading in Cambodia and have a meaningful impact on the youth in Cambodia.”

Prof. Chan thanked the Japan Cheerleading Association for their continuous support to Cambodia ever since the Cambodian Federation of Cheerleading became a member of the International Federation of Cheerleading and the Asian Federation of Cheerleading.

The ceremony was concluded with a performance by Cambodian cheerleaders.
