On April 4th, 2024, the 7th Ocean Cheerleading Championship and City Cheerleading Invitational Competition were held at the National Sun Yat-sen University Gymnasium in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei. Nearly 100 teams from Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand gathered to showcase their skills and cheer spirit across various divisions.
The 2024 edition marked the second consecutive year of welcoming international teams, underscoring the event’s growing prominence in the annual cheerleading calendar. Furthermore, the event was broadcast live courtesy of HOP Sports.
During the opening ceremony, the President of the Chinese Taipei Cheerleading Federation, Huang Yu-Chun paid tribute to those affected by the earthquake that struck off the east coast of Taiwan on the morning of April 3rd.
In the 7th Ocean Cheerleading Championship international rankings, Thailand distinguished itself once again in the Cheer Dance and Urban Cheer Dance categories, securing seven gold medals, three silver and one bronze medal.
Hosts Chinese Taipei also emerged as formidable contenders with the second-highest gold medal tally and the highest overall medal count.
Elsewhere, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, and Singapore all performed to a high level securing one or more gold medals each.
In the City Cheerleading Invitational Competition, Teikyo University Buffalos (Tokyo, Japan) powered their way to Gold with a breathtaking display, followed in second place by the representative team from Bucheon City, Republic of Korea. From the host region, Tainan City finished third and Chiayi City in fourth place.
The event, meticulously organized and executed, was a testament to the collaborative efforts of all involved. Participants and attendees alike revelled in the spirited atmosphere, creating memories that will endure long after the cheers have faded.
Looking ahead, the 2025 edition of the Ocean Cheerleading Championships and City Cheerleading Invitational Competition will take place at the Fengshan Sports Arena in Kaohsiung, promising another exhilarating showcase of athleticism on an even larger scale than before.
