9th Ocean Cheerleading Championship Highlights Asia’s Continued Strength

The 9th Ocean Cheerleading Championship and City Cheerleading Invitational took place on Friday, 3 April, at Fengshan Gymnasium in Kaohsiung, drawing 460 athletes from six countries and regions. Now in its fourth year of welcoming international teams, the event has become a key platform for cross-border exchange and technical development in Asian cheerleading.

Competition was held across the Cheerleading, Cheer Dance, and Urban Cheer Dance categories, with routines classified into three difficulty levels. This structure enabled athletes of varying experience to participate while providing a clear framework for evaluating performance at both domestic and international levels.

Teams demonstrated technical skill, athletic precision, and dynamic choreography across all categories, reflecting the high standard for which the region is known. Thailand led in Cheer Dance and Urban Cheer Dance, while Japan was represented by top-level teams Teikyo University BUFFALOS and Baika Women’s University RAIDERS, both of which have established reputations for world-class performances. Teams from Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, and Indonesia also delivered strong routines across multiple categories alongside the hosts, securing medals across various divisions. Beyond the competition floor, the event emphasized sportsmanship and collaboration, with teams supporting one another and contributing to smooth operations throughout the day.

Since opening to overseas teams in 2023, the Championship has reinforced Asia’s status as a world leader in cheerleading, offering valuable competitive experience for both domestic and international athletes.
