The 14th Cheerleading Asia International Open Championships and 7th Asian Junior Cheerleading Championships which were scheduled to be held on the 9-10 May 2020 in Takasaki, Japan, have been cancelled.
The decision was taken by the organisers, the Asian Federation of Cheerleading and the Japan Cheerleading Association, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The pandemic has caused governments around Asia to impose increasingly strict regulations in an effort to contain the virus including restrictions related to international travel.
Furthermore, the government of Japan has called for the voluntary cancellation of events nationwide and other measures to contain the spread of the virus.
Since the first priority is the health, safety and well-being of the athletes and everybody involved, it was decided that it is not possible to continue with the organisation of these events in such circumstances.
